NATIONAL PARK SKADAR LAKE

National Park Skadar lake covers an area of 40 000 ha, of which 391 kilometers square covers the lake. In 1996.  Skadar lake is located in Zeta-Skadar valley, surrounded by the karst terrain of southeastern Albanian mountain Prokletije and Montenegrian mountains – Lovcen, Sutorman and Rumija . Two-thirds of the total area of Skadar lake is in Montenegro, and the rest is in Albania. Skadar lake shore is extremely picturesque and abounds in peninsulas and bay swampy type. Skadar lake is crypto-depression,  from it stands out water to the Adriatic sea..The Montenegrin part of the lake and its surrounding area were declared a national park in 1983. In 1996, by Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, it was included in the Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance. Near the mouth of Rijeka Crnojevića, 11 m below the surface of the water there is a well preserved wreck of the steamboat Skanderbeg sank by Partisans in 1942, during the Second World War.Lake Skadar is one of the largest bird reserves in Europe, having 270 bird species, among which are some of the last pelicans in Europe, and thus popular with birders. The lake also contains habitats of seagulls and herons.It is abundant in fish, especially in carp, bleak and eel. Of the 34 native fish species, 7 are endemic to Lake Skadar.At the scale of Skadar Lake, about 31% of freshwater snails (12 out of 39 species sampled in the lake) are endemic.

Upon arrival in Virpazar, boarding on a tourist boat ; Cruising duration over 2 hours ; Cruising itinerary: Virpazar – Monastery St. Nicholas – Fortification Grmožur – Fishing village Raduš; End of cruising; ; Free time in Virpazar; Visit of exposure Vranjina,Departure for Bar in the afternoon hours.

Lunch is possible organise in unique  restorant on the  beach of Pjesacac(fish specialties) or in restorant in Virpazar .

Along the shore of Skadar Lake provides about 50 small and large islands. The biggest island is Vranjina, and a little bit larger are: Moračnik, Beška, Starčevo, Grmožur, Kom and Velja Čalakovica. One of the most beautiful churches is the Virgin church; On the Island Beška Jelena Balšić raised her church; On Grmožur, the Turks built a fortress that King Nichola turned into a prison. On the island Vranjina there is Monastery St. Nichola; There is 23 species of birds, protected by law in Europe; Raduš – fishing village with more preserved examples of vernacular architecture.
